Touring & Sightseeing
For those who enjoy a day touring and sightseeing, Hazyview is located at the foot of the Drakensberg mountain on the magnificent "Panorama Route". The area is teeming with a diversity of natural, cultural and historic gems and offers the traveller some of the most spectacular views in South Africa.

Hazyview
Founded in the early 20th Century by an alcoholic Canadian Boer War veteran, named Perry, who was running away from a trumped-up murder-charge down-country, Hazyview is now a bustling, peaceful market town at the portals of the Kruger National Park. Its temperate climate, with hot summer days cooled by evening rainfall and warm winter days of cloudless skies, makes Hazyview a genuine year-round destination.

The Sabi River Valley, in which Hazyview is situated, is bounded on all sides by indigenous bush, and these fertile conditions have led to the farming of a huge variety of fruit and trees. A number of small country style shopping experiences have recently added a popular new aspect to the town’s appeal.

Home to the Shangaan, North Sotho and Swazi peoples, Hazyview assures visitors of a warm Lowveld welcome as they descend from the Highveld towards the magnificent game reserves of the east. Ornithology and lepidoptery possibilities are excellent – with over 200 species of bird and 800 species of butterfly.

The Panorama
The sights, sounds and smells of Africa on your doorstep. From the sweeping views of the escarpment, with its
shimmering waterfalls and dramatic gorges, to the majestic Lowveld and the rolling plains of the Kruger National Park, The Panorama offers something for everyone. For the wildlife enthusiast, the nature-lover, the adrenaline addict, the romantic…

The towns and countryside, present the visitor with a gallery of experiences from the cool of the Highveld to the warm, sultry bush. There is shopping in abundance – the opportunity to snap up local crafts in the heart of the homes of the Shangaan, Swazi and North Sotho peoples.

The region showcases the culture of these indigenous peoples, interwoven with early settler history, the gold rush and the vibrancy of the new South Africa. Walks and trails thread through the mountains and the rich, indigenous forests, dramatic geological formations, plains and kopjes, rivers and gorges.

Blyde River Canyon (Molatse Canyon)
The Blyde River Canyon (Molatse Canyon) is a significant natural feature of South Africa and is the third largest canyon in the world, after the Grand Canyon in the United States and the Fish River Canyon in Namibia. It is the second largest canyon in Africa, and is known as one of the great wonders of nature on the continent.

It was formed by rivers cutting deep into the escarpment and eroding millions of tons of rock which were carried to the Lowveld and beyond to the Indian Ocean.  It is 26 kilometers in length and about 800 meters deep.

One of the best viewpoints of the Blyde River Canyon are of the "Three Rondavels". These are huge, round rocks, thought to be reminiscent of the houses or huts of the indigenous people, known as rondavels. This canyon is part of the famous Panorama route that starts at the town Graskop and includes God's Window, the Pinnacle, Bourke's Luck Potholes and many spectacular Waterfalls.

God's Window
At God’s Window on the Escarpment, about 9.2 km north of Graskop, majestic cliffs plunge over 700 meters to the Lowveld and the game reserves that have made the area one of Africa’s prime wildlife destinations which include the Kruger National Park.

Kruger National Park
The Kruger National Park is one of the most famous national parks in the world, and more than a century old. The Park measures 350 km from north to south, and approximately 60 km at its widest point, covering a total surface area of 1 948 528 hectares. The ecosystem is constantly maintained in its natural state to afford visitors the feeling and ambiance of true Africa.

When to visit the Park
Kruger is open all-year-round, but game viewing is easiest in winter (June to August) when the Park is at its driest, and animals gather at the waterholes. However some visitors choose the summer months (October to March) for the lush vegetation and bird breeding activity. In autumn (March to April), you can see the dramatic rutting of impala, wildebeest and other species. November to December will delight you with the birth of their young.

Climate in the Park
The climate is subtropical with very hot summers and warm, dry winters. Summer rains fall from October to March.
